Real Solutions for Learning Disabilities – ADD, ADHD, and Dyslexia in Reading or Math

“I can read now, I know if I don’t know how to read a word, I use my tools and then I can read it. I could not read before, now I can and it has been like that since I did my program.  My writing has changed. My teachers used to say that my writing was really bad. Now I know how to use my pencil right.” My granddaughter, age 11, 3 years after her Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program.

This is a picture of my granddaughter during her Davis Dyslexia Correction program. She was so excited to learn that “she was not stupid” and to have her unique picture thinking ability recognized for what it was – the gift of dyslexia.

The Davis approach is not based on tutoring or drill, but actually resolves the root causes of problems experienced by individuals with language-based learning difficulties. The Davis program is explained in detail in the book, The Gift of Dyslexia – http://www.dyslexia.com/bookstore/giftbook.htm

Why a Davis program instead of something else?

I first became aware of dyslexia when my granddaughter started struggling in school in grade 3. A very bright child, nobody could figure out why she could not read. Many teachers and well-meaning individuals, including her mother, tried all kinds of things – phonics, flashcards, drills, and even bribes and threats. Then her behavior started to become an issue in the classroom and her self-esteem plummeted. Normally a happy-go-lucky and loving child, she became sullen and withdrawn. It was time to try something else. By accident, her Mom happened onto the Davis Dyslexia website ( www.dyslexia.com ) and bought the book, The Gift of Dyslexia by Ron D. Davis. For the first time, somebody described in detail Julia’s strengths and weaknesses accurately. Everything made sense. Her Mom found a facilitator in her area and my granddaughter completed the Davis Dyslexia Correction Program with amazing results. In a week, she was reading at grade level and smiling again. The following year, she did a Math Mastery Program with the same stunning results.

Why is this program so successful where others only help a little?

The answer is in the unique tools and methods developed by Ron D. Davis. Most notable, the methods are based on the premise that dyslexia is not caused by brain damage or something “wrong” with an individual. Instead, Davis finds that dyslexics are gifted with the ability to alter perceptions. They are picture thinkers, very creative and highly intuitive. They are “hands on learners”. This ability has given rise to many of our most amazing scientific achievements and artistic endeavors of this and any other century. Where would we be without the telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, who himself was dyslexic. Instead of using methods that confuse dyslexics, Davis programs teach dyslexics to harness their unique ability to learn to read fluently. The client learns the “Davis tools” – unique and proven methods geared to their strengths, virtually making the learning disability disappear. With a 97% success rate, I think Davis is the best-kept secret I have met in quite some time!

What can a Davis program do for me or my child?

It can be reasonably expected that the client will experience immediate benefits in either reading, math or behavior depending on the program completed. As the follow up for the programs are completed (see descriptions for each program on the appropriate pages) the client becomes even more proficient. Changes are far-reaching and long lasting – very different from other programs. We offer unique, innovative approaches to reach all of our clients. Who am I?

I am a graduate nurse of the Halifax Children’s Hospital, Nova Scotia and spent 20 years working in Pediatric nursing, with children and families from all walks of life, at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. I attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S. and earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1993. In 1996, I became the Clinical Leader of Day Surgery at the IWK, a position I held until my early retirement in 2002.I was fortunate to meet and hear Ron Davis speak at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S., September 17, 2009. Knowing what the Davis programs did for my granddaughter and her family and being no stranger to learning later in life, I decided right then and there to become a Licensed Davis Facilitator and completed over 400 hours of in depth training and have been licensed since October of 2010.

As is described above, my love of Davis started when my granddaughter did so well after her programs. The Davis programs were life changing for her and her family!  Her self-esteem and self-confidence quickly returned and her Mom finally had the answers she had been searching for that explained my granddaughter’s difficulties in reading and math. In fact, her Mom was so impressed she became a facilitator in Oakville, Ontario herself. ( www.dyslexiaaddalternatives.com ).

I am located near Bayer’s Lake in Halifax and provide programs in my home overlooking the harbour or in your home locally. I also travel around the Maritime Provinces, providing Davis programs as needed, to help others like my granddaughter.

Now that my daughter, Beth, and I have both become Davis Facilitators, my granddaughter just looks at us with a smile on her face and says “and it’s all because of me!”
